Hello! I am Yoichi Maeda appointed as the new chairperson. Dr. Yuji Inoue, ex-chairperson retired from the chief director of TTC on September 30, and as the successor I was appointed as the managing director of the TTC from October 1. The chairperson of XGP Forum was an article of transfer at TTC, so I got an approval at the 26th general meeting of XGP Forum on October 20 and authorized to carry an important role as the chairperson.

Please allow me to introduce myself briefly. I worked at NTT Research Center & Group for about 30 years. I mainly engaged in research and development of FTTH OAS(Optical Access System), SDH and ATM Broadband network transport system and global standardization. I also hold a position as the chairperson of SG at ITU, which is in charge of standardization of OTN(Optical Transport Network).

On the basis of wire communication technology background I am going to study wireless technology which is the main point of this forum. I will entrust the leading right to the vice chairperson, Mr. Wakao, Mr. Chika and the chairpersons of each working groups. I hope to contribute to the review of global diffusion or standardization strategy.

Demand and concern for the broadband access has grown sharply nowadays. To the general users, the kind of access method, whether it is wire or wireless, is not quite important. They are just interested in high speed and high quality service. Currently optical access provides 100M~1G to each user. Accordingly there is no wonder users ask for speed up of wireless communication.

In addition, mobile access which wire communication cannot substitute is recognized as an indispensable method in next generation NW service such as ubiquitous, IE, M2M. Therefore I believe XGP Forum is highly expected. Global standardization group I am engaged in aims to realize global standardization and seeks for high quality technology that can realize mutual access easily in the meanwhile. For these reason, the activities of XGP Forum are of great meaning. I am really honored to join you as the chairperson. Thank you for your support in advance.

Brief Profile

     Dr. Yoichi MAEDA received B.E. and M.E. degrees in electronic engineering from Shizuoka University, Japan, in 1978 and 1980, respectively.  Since joining NTT in 1980, for the last 26 years he has been engaged in research and development on optical access network transport systems for broadband communications including SDH, ATM, and IP.  From 1988 to 1989 he worked for British Telecom Research Laboratories in the UK as an exchange research engineer.  From 2006 to 2010, he led the standardization promotion in NTT Advanced Technology Corporation and served as an NTT’s senior adviser on standardization strategy. He currently leads the Telecommunication Technology Committee (TTC) in Japan.  In October 2008 at WTSA-08, he was appointed to the chairman of ITU-T Study Group 15 for the 2009-2012 study period as his second term of the SG15 chairman. He is a member of the IEEE and a Fellow of the IEICE of Japan. He has been a feature editor on standards series in IEEE Communications Magazine since 1999.
