"PHS" and "MoU" stand for "Personal Handyphone System" and "Memorandum of Understanding" respectively. The PHS MoU Group is an international open association consisted of telecommunication carries, service providers, equipment manufacturers, technology providers, telecom authorities, public organizations and so on involved in or interested in PHS business. The Objective of PHS MoU Group is to introduce, operate and spread the PHS on a world-wide basis and thereby to contribute to the improved convenience of telecommunications users and to the consequential benefit of the people of the world.
The Group was inaugurated on July 3, 1996, at the first General Meeting in Singapore and has continued to achieve steady progress towards the goal. Up to now, the number of subscribers has soared up to tens of millions and the service spreads out all over the world.
The primary activities of the PHS MoU Group are the elaboration and maintenance of the PHS technical specification and the promotion activities of PHS technology and services, through the establishment and activity of various working groups. The Group produces a newsletter bi-monthly and also maintains this website, which provides the latest information about the industry. Additionally, the Group has been holding the General Meeting, Symposium and Seminar.
