From July 21 through 23, the EXPO COMM WIRELESS JAPAN '99, exhibition and seminar on mobile communication organized by Ric Telecom and supported by MPT and ARIB, was held at the Tokyo Big Sight Exhibition Hall. Fourth in the series of such exhibitions and seminars, nearly 20,000 people from both Japan and abroad visited the event.
120 organizations, including mobile operators and related manufacturers, exhibited their latest products and services, mobile wireless systems in business, the next-generation mobile communication, etc.
The PHS operators demonstrated the latest PHS terminals and services of character telephone, location information and remote telemetering. DDI Pocket, a major PHS operator, demonstrated the newly launched service of(Refer to the article on page 5) and related PHS terminals, as well as remote telemetering of gas meters and vending machines. Kyocera, Matsushita, Toshiba and other manufacturers also exhibited their latest PHS terminals. These PHS exhibits impressed the visitors that PHS is heading toward another era of growth.
In the seminar, about 30 leading persons in the worldwide mobile communication industry lectured on trends in the industry, such as mobile computing, next-generation mobile communication, etc.
