PHS at CEATEC JAPAN 2000

CEATEC JAPAN 2000 was held at Makuhari Messe near Tokyo for five days from October 3 though 7, 2000. CEATEC, presenting state-of-the-art visual, information and communications technologies, is an exhibition integrating two trade shows, COM JAPAN on communications equipment and Electronics Show on electronic devices. Organizers of CEATEC were four institutions including Communications Industry Association of Japan (CIAJ). With presentations of 740 companies from 23 countries and economies, the exhibition drew about 200,000 visitors.
Three stages of presentations and conferences made up CEATEC JAPAN: Business Stage, Industrial Stage and Home & Personal Stage. The Business Stage consisted of three zones: communications zone, network computing zone and service zone. Enterprises related to communications, computer and software got together, showcasing various Internet-driven ICT (Information and Communications Technology) solutions.
As regards PHS-related presentations, a new services booth utilizing PHS's high-speed data communications function attracted visitor attention. NTT DoCoMo, Inc. displayed PHS terminals for music distribution service that the carrier has been experimenting with (refer to PHS MoU News No. 28). DDI Pocket Inc. displayed its feel H (edge), a new model PHS terminal able to handle media-mix content which simultaneously expresses still image, music and text.
