PHS Data Communications "Wireless IP Access Service" for Bulk Users Offered
In September 2001, DDI POCKET Inc. started PHS data communications service with communications charges
by data speed for bulk users of PHS data communications (IP) service.
Along with the widespread use of the Internet and the trend toward large-scale intranets brought by corporate users' IT introduction,
demands for wireless Internet access using PHS are growing, and the number of data communications users is steadily increasing.
From the beginning of this year, in addition to individual users, corporate users' bulk subscriptions to PHS are expanding.
Under these circumstances, in order to provide large-scale companies or company groups with an environment for easily constructing intra-companysystems and
trouble-free installation of additional applications, DDI POCKET started the service whose charges are set not by the number of terminals, but by communications speed.
The service enables businesses having signed up for the DDI POCKET services to add their own functions and resell to user companies, thus,
enables Japan's first service similar to a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO).
The potential users include system integrators constructing mobile intranets and providing them to company users, providers of telemetering systems
and Internet access providers.
One of the factors enabling such a service is packet communications systems, introduced by DDI POCKET this year,
which vastly improved efficiency of network usage in data communications.
