NTT DoCoMo, Inc. (one of the largest mobile communication companies in Japan) launched the first Compact Flash (CF) card type PHS/Wireless LAN dual-mode card in the mobile communications industry,. The hP-in Free 2PWLh manufactured by Panasonic Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. attracted considerable attention at gWireless Japan 2003h (see the separate article in this Newsletter issue).


Main Features

1.PHS/Wireless LAN Dual-Mode Card
   The internet is accessible through either the    PHS network or Wireless LAN networks,    depending on reception and environmental    conditions.

2.Supporting g@FreeD™h Service
   The card supports NTT DoCoMofs flat-rate PHS    data communications service g@FreeD™h (see    PHS MoU Group News No.45) and 64 kbps    data communications.

3.Supporting Wireless LAN Service
   The card conforms to Wireless LAN standard    gIEEE802.11bh and offers data communications    at maximum 11 Mbps locations such as offices and homes as well as outdoor    public Wireless LAN access spots.
   Further, the card has received hWi-Fih (trade name of the above standard    proposed by the industry group WECA (Wireless Ethernet Compatibility    Alliance)) compliant certification, ensuring that it can communicate with any    other hWi-Fih certified Wireless LAN product.

4.Three Selectable Modes
   gPHS Single Modeh, gWireless LAN Single Modeh and gPHS/Wireless LAN    Dual-Modeh are selectable using a switch on the body of this card. In    gPHS/Wireless LAN Dual-Modeh, hPHS Preferred Modeh and gWireless LAN    Preferred Modeh are also selectable using PC or PDA utility software and the    latter enables Wireless LAN functionality when started in LAN-covered    environments and PHS otherwise.
