WILLCOM's Core Module Strategy
WILLCOM, Inc. (WILLCOM, Headquarters : Minato-ku, Tokyo/President : Mr. Yoichiro Yatsurugi) and WILLCOM Okinawa (Headquarters : Naha-shi, Okinawa/President : Mr. Tomokatsu Nakazato) announced on July 7 (Thu.), 2005 at Hotel Okura (Minato-ku, Tokyo) that WILLCOM is planning to establish the "WILLCOM Core Module Forum (tentative name)" for expanding the PHS market positively and developing the potential wireless communications market as well.
"WILLCOM Core Module Forum" is the organization aiming for the development of the new environments enabling the various genres of the companies and organizations in addition to the former communication equipment vendors to enter into by utilizing the modularized PHS wireless portion for a general purpose and expanding the wireless communications market positively. Concretely speaking, "CSC Engine" supplied by Computer Science Corporation (CSC) and newly developed "W-SIM (WILLCOM SIM)" etc. are called as the generic name of "WILLCOM Core Module" and the various products with those core modules are being planned to be developed from now on.
1. WILLCOM Core Module
"WILLCOM Core Module" is the small-sized products with the modularized PHS wireless portion. By utilizing this module, terminal manufacturers will be able to concentrate their resources on the software development etc. to reduce the development period or enhance the products' performance without being involved in the wireless portion.
Further, even the companies or organizations without the wireless communications technologies can also develop their original wireless terminals. One of the "WILLCOM Core Module" families, newly developed "W-SIM" is a general-purpose multi-function communication module having a capability of wireless communications (antenna and radio) and user data such as the telephone book etc. Module can be plugged in and out, so it can be used in various scenes according to the user's intention and TPO (Time, Place, Occasion).
The terminal utilizing the "W-SIM" is to be defined as "WILLCOM SIM STYLE" and WILLCOM will be promoting further diversification of such multipurpose terminal product lineups through the "WILLCOM Core Module Forum" support members to develop the new wireless market from now on.
2. WILLCOM Core Module Forum
"WILLCOM Core Module Forum" is the organization aiming for the investigation of the new terminals and the development of a new business style utilizing the "WILLCOM Core Module" and planned to be established within 2005.
Its support members have already reached 46companies as of July 7, 2005 (as per the list attached at the end of this document).
