PHS Seminar 3
Single Chip PHS RF Transceiver:

Mr. Michael Sera
Micro Linear Corporation

Micro Linear Corporation was founded in 1983, and went public in 1994. Our headquarters are in San Jose, California with various sales offices around the world. We are a fabless semiconductor company specializing in wireless integrated circuit solutions, which enable a variety of wireless products, serving a global market. Our products are used in many streaming wireless consumer applications such as digital cordless phones, PHS (Personal Handyphone System) handsets, wireless home theater speakers and headphones, security cameras, video game controllers, cordless headsets, digital baby monitors, computer peripherals, and other personal electronic appliances. Industrial applications that incorporate our products include lighting controls, home automation products, heating and cooling controls, vending machine controls, automatic meter reading devices, environmental monitoring devices and mesh networking nodes.

Our focus today is to showcase the ML1900, the first commercially available single-chip PHS transceiver with integrated PA. This transceiver significantly reduces the component count and is less than half the size of a discrete module design. We are in mass production now.

The ML1900's main features are as follows:

  • 1.880 – 1.925GHz
  • Integrated LNA and PA
  • 1.2MHz IF output
  • 300kHz channel spacing
  • π⁄4 DQPSK at 384 kbps
  • +21dBm TX power
  • 48 pin LPCC pkg (7×7mm)
  • "Green" Pb-Free pkg
  • Supports seamless handover

The ML1905 is a next-generation transceiver, now in its development stages. It has been enhanced to be compatible with baseband ICs (BBIC) that can work with a 10.8MHz IF. Compared to the ML1900, many of the ML1905's basic features have been improved. This transceiver is currently planned for mass production by the end of 2006.

The ML1905's main features are as follows:

  • 1.880 – 1.930GHz
  • Integrated LNA and PA
  • 10.8MHz IF output
  • 300kHz channel spacing
  • π⁄4 DQPSK at 384kbps
  • +21dBm TX power
  • 48pin LPCC pkg (7×7mm)
  • "Green" Pb-Free pkg
  • Works with most PHS BBIC's
  • Supports seamless handover

By applying Micro Linear's experience in high volume low cost integrated solutions, we can help build the solutions to fulfill your future PHS needs.
