WILLCOM Inc., together with other Japanese telecom operators attended Japan-Vietnam Broadband Wireless and Mobile Communication Seminar sponsored by Japanese government and Vietnam government.

On the seminar, Mr. Izumi Kurosawa (Vice President Engineering Development) at WILLCOM followed Mr. Le Nam Thang (Vice Minister, Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam) and Mr. Okamoto (Vice-Minister Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, Japan) to deliver a speech about the features and futures of PHS and Next Generation PHS.

PHS services are carried out in Hanoi and Ho Chi Min City in Vietnam. But due to the restriction of service area, and the shortage of terminal varieties, and the price competition from GSM camp, PHS faces difficulties in attracting more subscribers.

Despite, it is possible to re-evaluate the advantages of PHS as one of the wireless access methods, as 3G and WiMAX are looking for chance to penetrate the market. It is completely necessary for PHS camp to continue with its effort to approach Vietnam.
