1. Please give us some information about your company profile.

New Japan Radio Co., Ltd., was founded in 1959 as the progeny of Japan Radio Co., Ltd., a pioneer in microwave and semiconductor technologies in Japan.
Since then, we have refined our own technologies and developed products uniquely our own, making a significant contribution to electronics technology.
Now, under the banner of μ & μ, the fusion of LSI and microwave technologies, we're set to meet the demands of the multimedia age.

2. What is the corporate mission of New JPC?

New JRC corporate mission are as follows;
To aid in the healthy development of society by accomplishing our focal role in matching the expectations of society with those of our customers.
To realize our corporate mission by providing the best products possible based on our unique "microelectronics and microwave" technologies.

3. Please introduce us the products of New JRC.

Semiconductor products including bipolar, CMOS and GaAs (gallium arsenic) take 85% of the company's entire sales revenue. We are dealing with wide range of products from general articles such as op-amp and comparator to audio-visual articles such as 3D surround. On the other hand, we are also handling microwave components, microwave tubes and radar components.
Our microwave tubes products were adopted in the weather radar that was once installed at the top of Mt. Fuji.
Besides, about half of our products are made for domestic market, 30% are sold to other Asian countries/areas such as China, Korea and Taiwan, and the remaining products are designed for North America and Europe.

4. Can you introduce us the deployment of New JRC branches and offices?

The headquarter of New JRC is located at Nihonbashi, Tokyo. Development and manufacturing are carried out in Kawagoe Factory that has about 1500 staffs working in it. Besides, the pro-semiconductor manufacturing process is done at NJR Fukuoka factory and the post-semiconductor manufacturing process is completed at Saga Electronics Co. Ltd. In addition, development staffs are expatriated to other places than Kawagoe, such as Kansai and Singapore, in order to serve customers' special needs.

5. Mr. Kawasaki, could you tell us something about the business deployment of your department, which is in charge of GaAs IC related products?

GaAs IC department, which is made up of 60 R&D staffs and about 100 pro-processing staffs, is dealing with telecommunication products that are mainly used in mobile phone system, such as Antenna SW(Switch)、LNA(Low Noise Amp) and PA(Power Amp). Antenna SW and LNA, which is made by p-HEMT(pseudo orphic High Electron Mobility Transistor) process, and PA, which is made by HBT(Hetero-junction Bipolar Transistor) process are the mainstream products. The most important part of our sales income are from Antenna SW for UMTS and GSM system, and LNA made for GPS system. Products made for PHS system counts for about 5% of the total sales income.

6. What are the recommended points of your GaAs IC related products?

Our p-HEMT process products operates with E/D(Enhancement-and Depletion) mode, the devices with strong ESD(Electrostatic Discharge) tolerance, the realization of logic circuit with GaAs and the realization of DC-DC converter circuit are all top class technologies in the industry. We are confident of our products because our development is fully supported by these state-of-art technologies. In addition, we are under development of a new technology that will enable cost reduction of integrated circuit by inserting filter in LTCC (Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics) substrate.

7. Please introduce us of your PHS related products.

In fact, our first GaAs product was for PHS system. PA and SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) switch developed in 1995 for PHS system has been the market leader. Thereafter, we have launched PA for base stations, two-in-one LNA and Mixer product. Presently, the four-in-one PA+SW+LNA+Mixer product series, including NJG1717and NJG1723 are the most popular products on the market.

8. Could you point out the major problem confronting PHS market?

Its market is none the less smaller in scale comparing with any other systems, which I believe is a big challenge facing PHS. If there is a way to expand the market, it would be possible for equipment providers to introduce new technology and develop new devices at more reasonable cost with scale efficiency. As a result, the market would be further activated.

9. At last, could you please tell us the future strategy you are thinking to adopt?

We'd like to study positively the development of products for next-generation PHS system. Despite that the basic specification of next-generation PHS is similar with that of WiMax, of which the related products are under intensified development already, next- generation PHS requires s higher efficiency and more comprehensive functions. For this reason, we are trying to develop products that could provide prominent performance on both frequency and power axis to meet the versatile market needs of PHS with all-in-one functions.
